Overview

API is the acronym for Application Programming Interface, which is a software intermediary that allows two applications to talk to each other. LayerSync depends on different 3rd party APIs or services to perform certain functions for example email handling.

We may ask you to provide us with some or all of these API keys to set your website up dependant on your requirements. This will require you to create these accounts and maintain the ownership of them, it’s important for several reasons:

• Similarly to when setting up a bank account, API setup is completed in the account owners name, and requires their personal details.
• When you share your password with another person, you essentially grant them access to not only that account, but every account you own that uses the same password. One risk of sharing passwords is that your account immediately becomes less secure. Even if you trust the person to whom you give your password, they may not store it in a secure location or they might keep it on a compromised device, opening it up to potential theft and placing you, your accounts and your private information at risk.
• It’s our company policy to not accept or store any client’s credentials, it would also create security issues in case our data was compromised.
• Some of the plugins/APIs are configurable so you will be in power to maintain and update them yourself if needed.
• It’s the right practice from a technical point of view and it helps to comply with different security standards.

Google reCAPTCHA v3

Google reCAPTCHA is a free service from Google that helps protect websites from spam and abuse. It returns a score for each request without user friction. The score is based on interactions with your site and enables us to distinguish real users from bots. LayerSync uses reCAPTCHA to filter out spam messages from contact forms.

2 values are required in order to set up reCAPTCHA, the public key and the secret key. Please also make sure to add the correct domain names that includes the testing domain name as well as the working domain name.

Google Maps

Google Maps is a web mapping platform and consumer application offered by Google. In order to use or embed Google Maps on your website we’re going to require you to create and provide us with your Google Maps API key. Usually there’s no cost however that does depend on what you are using the maps for and how many views they get. Google are giving us $200 a month of free usage so you will need to be doing very large volumes of map impressions to exceed this. While creating the API key you’re going to be asked to provide your card details but you’re only going to be charged if you exceed the limit.

Please also make sure to add the correct domain names that includes the testing domain name as well as the working domain name.

Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. In order to implement this on your website we’re going to require you to create a Google Analytics account and provide us with the tracking code.

Cookiebot is a cloud-driven solution that automatically controls cookies and trackers, enabling full GDPR/ePrivacy and CCPA compliance for websites. In order to implement this on your website we’re going to require you to create a free Cookiebot account and provide us with the code snippet.

The free version of Cookiebot only allows for one domain name. If you aren't looking to get the paid version please only add the working domain name.

SendGrid

SendGrid is a cloud-based SMTP provider that allows you to send email without having to maintain email servers. Email handling in LayerSync is done through SendGrid, for example when a user submits an email form, the email you will receive will be sent through the SendGrid email service. In order for this to work we’re going to require you to set up a free account, authorise the email address that you want to use, and also provide us with your API key.

MailChimp

Mailchimp is a marketing automation platform and email marketing service for managing mailing lists and creating email marketing campaigns to send to customers.

In order to implement this in LayerSync, we are going to need you to provide us with your API key and the list ID of the mailing list that you wish to use.
